Cold Front Will Be Followed By Drop In Temps, First Snowfall For Some In Northeast

A strong cold front that will sweep through the region will be followed by a drop in temperatures with some parts of the Northeast seeing snowfall for the first time this season.

Temperatures will become lower starting Tuesday, Oct. 8, with overnight lows in the 40s, and dipping into the 30s in upstate New York and northern New England.

After a warm and pleasant sunny day on Sunday, October 6, skies will become cloudy as a frontal system moves through on Sunday night into Monday morning, October 7. 

This system will bring showers that are expected to linger from just before daybreak until around noontime, according to the National Weather Service.Scattered thunderstorms are possible until late Monday morning.

Monday's high temperature will be around 70 degrees.

About a quarter-inch of precipitation is expected with higher amounts where there are storms.

Cool fall mornings are in store for Tuesday, Oct. 8, and beyond with overnight lows in the 30s and 40s.

"Typically when the first chill of the fall arrives in the Northeast, the season's first snowflakes aren't far behind," AccuWeather.com says.

There will be a chance for snow showers in areas with the highest elevations in upstate New York and northern New England.

"It is possible that in some of the ridges and peaks in the Adirondack, Green and White mountains, there is a light covering of snow," AccuWeather Meteorologist Grady Gilman said. 

Wednesday, Oct. 9 will be sunny and chilly, with a high temperature around 60 degrees.

Look for more of the same on Thursday, Oct. 10 with bright sunshine and a high temperature in the low 60s.
